Hey Y'all! -I'm back. Sorry to do that to you every so often, just up and disappear. Just know I always come back. Life gets overwhelming. Especially when you go from 0-60 {summer vacay-back to work. You forget how exhausting kids can be + still working with Dean Street Society + becoming an affiliate for Hilary's next launch- yay}. Anywho, IN HONOR of going back to school {work} I thought I would start a new series on the blog called " On Wednesday's We Wear Art ". 'After 'Mean Girls' "On Wednesday we wear PINK" but BETTER. Because not only will I show you how I shop'd my wardrobe to put together an outfit inspired by an artist//piece of art but you will also get a mini ART {history} lesson too! I PROMISE it won't be boring, it's Ms. P {my Monday-Friday 7:30am-4pm alter ego}! I hope you'll be inspired to 'shop' your wardrobe for a new outfit in a different way as well, and join me on Instagram using the hashtag #OnWednesdaysWeWearArt {I love me a hashtag}! I thought this would be a great way for me to share two of my favorite things {art + fashion} with you in a different way, but one that is very relevant in my daily life. In high school, I was really close to my art teacher {Ms.Mick} and one day she pointed out to me that I had a tendency to dress either like the artwork I was creating, or the artist I was researching. It was true, and still is today- for me + soo many other people, in similar types of ways too. Art reflects life, life reflects art. Anyways, heres how it will work moving forward. I will show you an image the Wednesday prior for inspiration. This week I am just kicking it off with Frida Kahlo since I have already kind of talked about her on the blog before {she is one of my favorites}. I used the image above + the few below for inspiration to put together my outfit. I fell in love with Frida and her artwork once I knew her 'story'. She was such a strong + passionate artist//woman, who was insanely talented + influential in art + politics. AND talk about a go getter #GIRLBOSS I highly suggest you do yourself a favor, and rent this movie + buy yourself a copy of her diary for your coffee table. To remind yourself daily that 'I AM WOMAN. I AM STRONG!' and of course, "VIVA LA FRIDA"! Get the look: { blazer + handbag [years ago] : Target || dress//smock : World Market || necklace : horrible, but I can't remember [online somewhere] || headband : Urban Outfitters || Earrings : D.I.Y. -soon to come- || photography : Chris Burden || flower + skull backdrop : D.I.Y. } I think that Chris did an AMAZING job helping me catch her essences. We both agreed how shocking it was, that I favored her so in some of the photos. I really look forward to working more on this lil series! So, here is your inspiration for next week......... Pablo Picasso! {Who was also a dachshund lover!}
SOO let these images get your gears going + get you inspired. I am going to choose the color pallet from the portrait of his wife + stick with black + white stripes. Please feel free to do a little google search yourself + let me know if you come up with//know something interesting about him. I definitely do not know it all + will only scrape the surface here, but I am interested in what you know//like//love//dislike. Get a conversation started, I'd love it! I can't wait to see how YOU are inspired next Wednesday. I will remind you again, early next week {around mon.} about #OnWednesdayWeWearArt! AND if you decide to play along, please don't be shy! I am learning, we have a very sweet, but bashful community around here. Reach out, support each other + lift each other up {if only in your silly daily fashion//D.I.Y. adventures- it will make you feel beautiful + strong//powerful [like our girl Frida]....because you are! SO be PROUD}. Psst! : Stay tuned for e-mail features + affiliates + sponsors + new gals joining MFC + conferences//mixers in September! I am so excited//thankful!
