Hey Gals + Happy Wednesday! We have made it half way through this work week & on Wednesdays we wear art [and this week, pink too!] So I am not sure if you have picked up on this, but this feature is a spin off from Mean Girls [the movie] 'On Wednesdays we wear pink!'. BUT instead, we wear art- and are a lot nicer around here ;) Anywho, in lieu of valentines day- this week I chose an artist to inspire us whos paintings have a very romantic feel to them. Her name is Marie Laurencin, and she is a true Parisian artist. Born and raised in Paris where she grew up studying the arts. To one day become a famous French painter, stage designer and illustrator. Even illustrating the 1930's eddition of Alice in Wonderland. [A story for any gal with an over active imagination!] Marie used alot of pastels and grey scale tones in her paintings and illustrations. Her lines soft, and when she used color- it was bold and vibrant...but pastel! A woman of my own heart. She loved contrast. From a bold black/white, grey scale to pops of colors! Just like this outfit! This fire hydrant reminded me of The Brave Little Toaster, remember that?! I wore this outfit when we were in Santa Teresa- a neighbrohood in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Santa Teresa is the artist town of Rio. If your from Georgia- its like the Savannah meets Little 5 Points of Brazil. For those of you who that means nothing to- its an old, historic town that once was a wealthy side of town. So it is encompassed with old historic mansions, that are now filled with quirky, off beat studios [and their artist], apartments, resturants and businesses. Santa Teresa was about a 25 minute cab ride out of down town Rio, but absolutely worth the 'hike' out there. It was honestly one of our favorite days of the trip. After a few hours walking around and exploring the town, we got caught in the rain! So we decided to duck into a bar and have a couple of drinks. AND in Brazil, a couple is all you need- if yuh know what I mean! The whole time in Brazil, we never felt rushed. It is a big city, but they know how to take it easy! [Well except with driving, thats a different story though!] So it was really nice to partake in that part of the culture, and sit back relax and enjoy ourselves no matter where we were or what the situation- thats the Brazilian way! [It also makes it super easy to do that when your on vacation!] What I'm Wearing : [ Top : Target // Skirt : Vintage // Bag : Coach // Shoes : Modcloth // Sunnies : Target // Braclet, that is actually a necklace : Dollar Store ] Photos by Chris Burden : website // Tumblr
