ArtWORK…the word itself lets you know its not going to be easy, its going to be WORK. And when I say work, I’m talking the type of work an artist would rather not be doing…the business side of being an artist, and marketing yourself as so.

Some days being an artist/business man/woman is going to feel like really hard work, possibly even more so than the job your working at right now. But don’t let that get you down! As an artist its always all about the process, and any person choosing a creative career or a career as an artist has been there before.

[Let me share with you a little bit of my journey as an artist and then explain how I am here to help you with yours! To help you sort through the confusing parts of getting started, getting yourself out there and making money as an artist! ]

A little over a year ago I was at a very different spot in my life. Struggling as a creative and not even calling myself an ‘artist’ anymore, as I had completely lost my vision and who I was as an artist.

I was an art teacher and a blogger. I made art with my students daily, and blogged about cute outfits and arts + crafts for fun after school. After [art] college the only artist I hung out with were all under the age of 10. I thought my chances of figuring out how to be an artist had done come and gone, and I should just be thankful that I get to make a living making and sharing art everyday with my students.

After awhile my soul was frustrated at denying myself time creating alone, just for me. So I got back at it. I committed to creating daily. I shared my paintings, doodles and messy studio on Instagram + my blog. I challenged those around me and on social media to create with me daily and to share their creations too. I started collaborating with other creatives on projects and supporting them in theirs. I took on freelance jobs [some that I wasn’t sure I was ready or ‘good enough' for], and I excelled artistically and finically like never before!

And without hardly realizing it, I found myself, my ‘voice’ as an artist. I also found my community- my people. A ‘tribe’ of people who value art and the people that create it! This community is full of fellow artist, advocates, customers, the people who inspired me to keep on creating everyday and it grows a little more each day!

I LEARNED ALOT and grew soo much as an artist and a business.

I’m not here to brag, and I’m not saying I never failed, or that I didn’t have doubts or fear…because I have- all of it! And all this time I wish I had someone there to help me navigate these waters. But I figured it out (and I’m always learning more)!

However, the three major questions I had before really getting started putting myself out there was :
  • How can I use my talents to make a living and not have to work 24/7 or be a 'starving artist'?
  • How do I find my audience [clients, collectors, buyers, work]?
  • How/where do I sell my artwork? [craft shows, online, social media, licensing, packaging, shipping, etc.]

These are things that I have figured out for myself, and I want to help you get started on your journey of building your career as an artist too! SO I’ve teamed up with Modern Thrive to bring you an exclusive 3 day online workshop Dec. 1st-3rd @ 7pm EST // 6pm CST // 4pm PST called “Creating a Career with Your Art”. I am SO excited about this class and will be talking real talk about :
  • choosing a career path that will allow you to meet your individual goals,
  • Packaging and pricing your work into products that people will want to buy
  • And how to use free content and social media to build a community around your work
