This Ikea Hack Planter Wall DIY is one that I am sooo excited to share with you! It was so hard for me to not instagram it right away! It will make for the perfect little weekend project too, it only took me a couple hours to do.
I by no means have a green thumb. My grandmother on the other hand, well she was the garden master! She is most definitely where I get my love for flowers from. I think she will be very proud of this little Ikea Hack Planter Wall DIY project! (Hopefully I keep the plants alive!) I used Sweet Potato Vine in the planters (no it doesn't grow sweet potatoes- I asked that too). I had no idea what type of plant I wanted to use, I just described my vision to the man in the garden section. I didn't want flowers, just greenery and I also noted my lack of experience with 'gardening'. He said s.p.v. sounded like the right fit for me. They are fairly low maintenance (yes, they need water daily though) and can survive in sun or shade. As you can see from the pictures below, our patio only gets a few hours of direct sunlight daily and only in certain spots because it is in between two buildings. ***(You can also get this vine in different colors and shades- like purple and chartreuse!) The white planters I used are actually from my friends wedding. She gave me a bunch of them, and I have a few hanging in my classroom that hold erasers, pencil sharpeners, etc. I brought the rest of them home with me at the end of the school year because now that we live here, and have this giant wooden wall I knew I could do something with them. I am not sure if my friend got these from Ikea or not, but they have some that look just like them there, for about five bucks each! (and who doesn't love a good Ikea Hack?!) Follow below for step-by-step instructions, and for some really cool night pictures that Chris took. { * * * I am by no means a gardening pro- like I said. So please leave me tips and tricks in the comments and check out my friend Kevin's post for Better Home and Gardens, here, all about the Sweet Potato Vine }
And if you don't have a green thumb, but are still feelin' the botanical vibe, you can shop these two prints 'Grow Your Own Way' - here, and 'Sorry I Can't My Plants Need Me' - here.
Hope you guys enjoyed this post, happy weekend and happy D.I.Y-ing!
