![]() Hello! I thought I'd quickly share a few photos from a while ago, when my friends Emilee and Heather came over for a crafternoon! We worked on these geometric candle holders/candles, made from cement and wax. Emilee is getting married this fall, and wanted to experiment with some crafts that she may be using for decoration at the wedding. And you know I am always down for a craft/ladies day! She got the idea Pinterest, and downloaded the template/molds here. Whether you choose to go with the cement or the candle wax- either way, it is a super easy craft to do. Supplies: - Bag of cement (only about $2-$4, but HEAVY) -Candle wax - Candle wick -Wax Dye chips (if you want to tint your candles) -candle sticks/tea lights -Bowls (ones that you won't mind completely messing up) -spoon of something to mix with. -Hot plate, or stove top -jars to melt wax in -Templates -acrylic paint Emilee printed the templates out the night before and put them together. Then she coated the seams/edges of the geometric forms a couple of times with white acrylic paint. You CAN NOT skip or forget this step. Follow the instructions on the website where we printed the template from. This step keeps the concrete/wax from leaking out of the form. Then when its all dried you can just peal the paper away! Tips before you try this: -You'll see that a couple of our candles leaked as we were pouring them in, so I suggest placing a piece of cardboard/paper plate- something down, so you don't ruin the surface you are working on. -Use a sifter, to sift out all the large chunks of rock before you start adding your water to the cement mixture. This way you won't come out with a lumpy result- unless thats what you want! But remember your working with paper templates, so you can't afford even the littlest poke, to cause a leak! -Use pencils/chop sticks to wrap your wick around and balance on top of your candle. -Let candles dry extra time than you think, or else you'll get finger prints! -Let the cement dry extra time than you think, or else it will crack! -Next, I want to make cute planters- by making the templates larger! Happy Crafting!
