My Hair[y] Timeline

Hey folks!

So today I am popping in real quick to talk about hair!

My hair that is. If you haven't noticed, it tends to change a lot, and often! I recently went platinum blonde- which was a huge change for me, one that I LOVE. and honestly never thought I'd be able to pull off [without it turning pee- yellow]. And I most recently added some pink peek-a-boos [at home].

I really miss my long hair + big messy top bun. For now, my plan is to grow my hair out- and keep it blonde for a bit.

People have e-mailed asking me about my hair- who does it, what my favorite hair style has been, why I change it so much? etc. So let me answer some ?'s for yuh! + I'll share some photos of hairstyles of years past.

First, let me mention that my first job, at 14 was at a hair salon [that I believe still exists back in my home town of Fayetteville] called the Hack Shack! AND well, ever since then I have been doing my hair like crazy, and some times just looked crazy too. Hah [but really]

Most of the time I would do my hair myself. Those bangs below, I cut them. And I would just get hair dye from CVS or Sally's. For a bit, my friend Katie [making the mustache with my hair below] would do my hair, as she worked at a hair salon. Even still, I was in college- so when money was lacking, my hair was not a priority and I would just D.I.Y. DYE it!.

NOW, my good friend Lori at Union16 Salon in Studioplex, here in Atlanta does my hair. She literally is amazing with color. She has been able to drastically change my look in one day, without hardly any damage//breakage, and unfortunately with all my hair adventures through out the years I have been in the moment where [I thought] my hair was just ruined.

OH, and you saw above, back in 2008 I had a pixie cut for about 8 months. I did it for a modeling gig, then decided that wasn't my thing. So I started to grow my hair out- lets not talk about the mullet stage. hehe

Why do I color//change my hair so much?

I mean, why not? I think especially after I cut all my hair off into a pixie, I realized I wasn't as attach to my hair as I thought I was, as far as it 'making me beautiful'. Thats not to say that when I cut my hair short, I didn't  have days where I felt like I looked like a boy, or at least an awful lot like my brother Blake. Because I did. I have days now, where I 'hate my hair'. But its not really my hair I'm hating....BUT that's another post, that might need to involve Dr. Phil [wink].

I guess my point is, to me my hair is just something I change like my style. Some days Im colorful + preppy like Kate Spade, the next day I'm dressed like a flower child and the following day I'm in all black.

I'm not trying to follow a trend or a person, and it's not because I 'hate my hair'. I love my hair and I am just so thankful that it allows me to do so much to it + stays healthy! [Also thankful for a hairdresser who is so patience with a client that is always changing her mind!]

AND if I wasn't a teacher and didn't have to worry so much about being a 'professional' who 'follows dress code' then I'm sure my hair would be all kinds of colors of the rainbow.

My favorite hair style? Well that would be the one that I have currently, or else I'd probably be changing it right about now! However, I have noticed that I tend to like the most drastic looks the best...the bright blonde, bright red, the dark black, and Pixie cut. I like drama with my hair, not in my personal life!

Hello + Happy Wednesday!

We've made it half way to the weekend! AND boy 'O boy, this week has been a doozy! I'm STILL sick, I can not seem to shake this head cold- and being a teacher//having to use my voice all day is catching up to me, so currently I sound like a man frog. But feeling much better than I did.

Oh and did I mention that I also survived my first field trip with pre-k?!?! Every year I take each grade level on a field trip, but I have never done so with pre-k. It's very nerve racking taking 20 + 3//4 year old children out in public in the city, and being responsible for them It went wonderfully though!

Anywho, this week for #WednesdayWeWearArt I choose #PopArt to be our inspiration. This is a very BROAD theme, so lets just talk a little bit about what pop art is exactly.

Pop art is an art movement that emerged in the mid to late 1950's, become POPular in the 1960's in the US + Britain. When I teach my students about pop art, I tell them to be reminded that pop art and pop culture go hand in hand. Pop artist challenged traditionally fine artist by pulling imagery that was already POPular in the every day culture- and turned it into art [usually in a larger than life way]. So pop art is very much still alive and being created today. That maybe a vauge explanation of what pop art is, but enough for you to get the jest of it!

We will be going more in depth with pop art, as we explore different pop artist through out the weeks. Today though, I am sharing with you a few of my favorite pop art pieces that inspired my outfit//location for this shoot.

Happy Monday!

You may be like me, and not really a HAPPY Monday type of lady, but today IS a HAPPY Monday kind of day because my gal Hilary released her second video in Style & Styleability!!!

This video will help you map out your personal style and get you thinking. She'll ask you some really good questions like :

-Who's celebrity style essence do you admire? Are you more of a Jennifer Aniston//Gwyneth Paltrow type of gal, who will style will rarely 'shock' you, or are you more of a Gewn Stefani//Sarah Jessica Parker type of betty- who's style is less predictable?

-Who's closet would you want to raid if you could? I'd go with Elise Larson, Sarah Jessica Parker, Zooey Deschanel

-_Your living your dream! What does it look like?! What do you look like?!

I don't want to give away too much, just check it out for yourself!!! Remember this video series is FREE! So do something nice for yourself today, and take 15 mins to rethink your personal style! You wont regret it. Hilary tells you how to use Pinterest to help curate your style essence! I am working on my own style essence board now! If your shy about this, remember you can make boards private on Pinterest and no one but you [and who you invite] will see!

Also, if you missed the fist video, just scroll down and click on the video from last weeks post! In video one she taught us how to organize our closet with less than a dollar!

maiedae Mixer [ You're Golden ]

Gahh, what a FABulous, Golden weekend it was for me! Hope it was for you as well. I actually spent pretty much my whole day in bed. I have come down with a terrible head cold, just thankful it didn't really hit until today- so that I was able to enjoy my night on Saturday at the Maiedae Mixer here in Atlanta.

For those of you wondering what a Maiedae Mixer is, it is an annual gathering for creative entrepreneur women, hosted by Savannah + Jenny the beautiful gals of Maiedae ! Just a reason for us creative, virtual lady frans to all gather together in real life! I actually attended this mixer as a helper//extra pair of hands. I reached out to them months ago about the mixer through email, and they got back to me asking for assistance with things that day, and in return I get to go for free! SO moral of the story- DON'T be afraid to put yourself out there, it [often] can work out for the best!

This years theme was " You're Golden" and everyone was encouraged to dress up as much as they'd like with the theme in mind. Gold isn't necessarily a color I have a lot of in my wardrobe, and I didn't feel compelled to shop for a dress either [ I've been much better with saving money lately].

So instead I opted for a number that made me feel golden! I got this dress about a year in a half ago from a thrift store, and the only other time I wore it was to a wedding I went to in Vegas. So I was just smitten that I had another reason to wear it!

My dahhling friend [ and hair stylist] Lori did my hair + makeup for me so that I could feel extra glam! AND I had my nails painted copper!

I only snapped a few photos before the event began, but heres what I got. Be sure to check out the #MaiedaeMixer hashtag on Instagram for more pics!
