Hey Gals + Happy FRYday!
I'm here for another week of #GirlCrushFRYday and this week we are talking serious mermaid talk with the closest thing to a real living [walking] mermaid there is, the adorable Kailey Flyte! This gal maybe just 20 years old, but so full of creativity and already running a very successful blog, getting to work with major brands and use her artistic eye to capture amazing photos!
Check out Kaileys blog Mermaidens and her Instagram here, and keep scrolling to read my oh-so-silly interview with her!
1. How do you like your [french] fries [flavored &/or sauces &/or where from etc...]?
With ketchup and ranch! McDonald's fries are so amazing.
2. If you were a cartoon charter, who’da you be?
Such an amazing question! I like to think I'm a mixture of a bunch - like Judy Jetson, the original Strawberry Shortcake, and Princess Bubblegum from Adventure Time...
3. Right now, do your socks match?
They almost never do... ;)
4. In line skates/roller blades or old school roller skates?
Definitely the old school roller skates! I adore them.
5. Would you rather drink a cup full of syrup or a jug full of butter milk?
Oh man! Probably syrup - super rich milky things make me sick (not including ice cream.. hehe).
6. Favorite ice-cream topping?
Hot fudge *___* I also like cookie crumbles and banana bits!
7. If you were Ariel, would you have given your fins away for feet [for Prince Eric?] Why/why not?
This is honestly a SUPER HARD QUESTION. Because I love all things mermaidy, but I also understand the feeling of longing for more and exploring what feels so close yet so far away... I feel like her wanting legs wasn't just for Prince Eric, but because she had a life long obsession with humans and when King Triton blew up her collection of human things it pushed her into action and she rebelled against him and what was expected of her.
Clearly I have seen The Little Mermaid too many times... *cough* Back to your *original* question: I think I would have given up my fin for legs to explore that cute little European town and after I had my fill - see if I still wanted to be a mermaid ;A;
8. Are [were] you a blue slurpee girl, or a red slurpee girl?
Neither! I'm more of a soda person ;*
9. Whats your favorite flavor oreo?
Regular oreos! I feel like they are already perfection.
10. What color are your nails?
Peachy pink of course!
11. Are you a high heel or flats kinda gal?
I absolutely love how high heels look, but am definitely more comfortable in flats!
Psst! : Don't for get about the new #GrilCrushFRYday page here!
I hope everyones May has gotten off to a great start and that you didn't have too much fun on Cinco De Mayo. I wish I could say that the reason I missed posting this yesterday was because I was recovering form Cinco De Mayo, however I was just trying to survive my work week, a big deadline and manage to catch a few hours of sleep. I AM SO READY FOR SUMMER.
I know I can't complain, and I don't exactly have this summer off. I have MAJOR projects ahead of me and I am about knee deep in one right now. This time next month I will be hoping on a plane to San Fran to work on the biggest freelancing opportunity I've gotten yet! I am soo excited, and soo thankful and just can't wait! I am also super happy that it has lined up perfectly with my summer vacation, so that I can really enjoy this opportunity and soak it all in :)
Any-who, this week's inspiration for #OnWednesdaysWeWearArt was artist Gustav Klimt. He is a very famous artist, and if you have an Ikea anywhere near you, then you have probably seen [remakes of] his paintings for sale, like the one above. I used to have two of those paintings actually hanging up in my apartment in college. I 'discovered' Klimt my freshmen year of college, and fell in love with all of his ornate, tiny details.
This picture below, with Klimt and his cat is also a very famous picture of him and he was often known to wear that flowly looking moo-moo thing. It reminds me of what my Grandmother used to wear around the house, her 'house coat'. That is kinda the feel I get when wearing this dress that I have on. It is so flowy and free, perfect for this hot Georgia heat. I love the leather straps on my dress btw.
I could flood my website with paintings of his that I just adore, but instead I will direct you to my Pinterest board of his work, here. The way he uses color and represents the woman's body, I just love. BUT I will tell you, he is kind of controversial too. He was criticized for his 'pornographic' paintings and was rumored to be a womanizer of sorts. So theres that, but if you can put that to the side- the work he created is beautiful. The artist that studied directly under him is hands down one of my favorite too, Egon Schiele. His sketches are dark, and slightly twisted- but strikingly beautiful as well.

Okay...so I got to interview the o-so-witty and inspiring Karla, who forever will be Twerkstorian in my head. She is the creator of those cheeky Prada necklaces you may or may not have been seen ALL over Instagram. She is a so Cal girl, born and raised with a wicked since of humor and big dreams [that I HOPE she makes her reality!]
Read my interview with her below to find out how she got into making her necklaces [and other quirky accessories] and see what she wants to be when she 'grows up' - I don't think you'll be surprise ;P and of course, check her out on Instagram here + here, and be sure to get yourself [or mom] a purrdy necklace!
1. How do you like your [french] fries [flavored &/or sauces &/or where from etc...]?
I like my french fries to be endless,in a big basket with a few stray curly fries and zero guilt. I like them thick, thin, crispy, soft, seasoned, from random train station cafeterias and from the bottom of grease stained fast food bags.However- I do not like my french fries to be shared. You have been warned.
2. Would you rather live in the desert or in Antarctica?
I'm a southern california girl, where winter is a short week in the middle of Januaray when the mercury dips below the 50 degree mark and everyone is "freezing". So you might assume I would prefer a climate more familar to what I am accustome to. Actually it's quite the opposite. I would prefer Antartica over the desert any day of the week! Cold weather means warm blankets, microwavble socks, indoor activities, probably some netlix binging and hiberating. Who wouldn't want that sort of comfort?
3. If you could have any super power for a day, what would it be? and what would you do with your new found power?
If I had the ability just for one day to be able to "shape shift" ( like Mystique from X-men) it would drastically change the way I see the world. I'd probably start off my shape shifting by morphng into a house cat- chase some birds, take a nap on a window sill (normal cat activities). I'd also take advantge of this new found super power by trying my hand at being famous for the day. I'd always wondered what it would be like to be Gwen Stefani and have perfect platnium blonde hair and washboard abs. Finally, I would have to shift into a male body... just out of curiosity.
4. What lead you to creating your oh-so-cheeky necklaces?
I could write a small novela about how I ended up with my etsy shop and creating my necklaces, but I'll just stick to the cliffnotes version because no one wants to read the sob stories. After I dropped out of graduate school I moved back to California. I didn't have a job, a car, money or a bedroom. I was in a super weird place with a lot of time on my hands and nothing to do. Long story short- I started making the "Prada" necklaces because I thought it was so funny to use the name of a high end brand with low brow craft materials. I started to get a lot of compliments from people about my necklace and I thought to myself, "Hey, people think its funny! and they like it." and then it kinda took off from there.
5. Where did you grow up?
I grew up in the LA area, in a small city called Rosemead. I moved around a few times after that but I always have a special place in my heart for my hometown.
6. What did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be on Saturday Night Live. Not much has changed. I still find myself daydreaming about this. I haven't given up just yet because I am stubborn.
Pst! : Don't forget that you can can check out my past girl crushes over on this page!
