Happy FRY-Day gals :)
We made it to the weekend and I am just one week away from my spring break! [yay!!!] This weekend I plan on spending some time outside with the pups, and the rest of my time will be spent painting! I have a handfull of REALLY fun projects that I am lucky enough to get to work on, and will be able to share with you gals soon enough! Today, I'm here to introduce you to one of my friends and this week's girl crush- Sophie Logham. Her and I became friends via Instagram [friending online is a thing!] but since she lives here in Atlanta as well, we are pals in real life too. Sophie is just a ray of sunshine and is constantly chasing color. She loves color, being girly and all the bright and colorful houses. Check out her Instagram account here, and her #HappyHouseDreams hashtag here! Read my interview with Sophie below :)
I like my fries plain and simple -- with a touch of parmesan cheese. I work at the W and our restaurant, Cook Hall, has the best parmesan truffle french fries. 2. Remember Lisa Frank, Which character was your favorite? Of course I still remember Lisa Frank. I still buy her products whenever I spot them. Tip: The Dollar Tree has the best Lisa Frank stickers and notebooks. My fav was Angel Kitty -- because who doesn't want a pet kitty with rainbow wings? 3. Before you started this interview, what were you doing? Bidding on an eBay item that it ending soon. I am constantly scouring eBay and Craigslists and thrift stores for good deals + vintage items. 4. Lefty or righty? Righty 5. If you could only have a wardrobe from one decade- which decade would you choose? Ahhh this is so hard. Probably the 60s because I am kind of obsessed with mod mini dresses and 60s cocktail dresses. 6. What is your favorite sweet treat? I am a sucker for chocolate milkshakes. Oh, and Snickers Ice Cream bars. I have 12 in my fridge right now, which will probably all be gone at the end of the week.
Hello Friends!
Happy Wednesday + Happy #OnWednesdaysWeWearArt day! I had to miss last week, as it was just too much to do and not enough time. Something had to get chopped from my list, and well.…However, I am proud of myself, as that is the first time I have missed a week since I started this feature back in August! [Read my first #OWWWA post here!] I have been feeling very spread thin lately, and I don't think I’m alone when I say I am trying to ‘find my balance’ in life. But do know- I am soo thankful for this chaos and all the wonderful opportunities that keep getting sent my way, just constantly seeking more balance [and sleep] !!! hehe
Any-who, this week’s inspiration is artist Piet Mondrian! He was a modern Dutch artist who was one of the founders of the De Stijl art movement. He is most recognized for his bold, black, gridded lines, with blocks of primary colors. Mondrian had a very methodical way of working. He would transform the outside world into pure abstraction by using horizontal + vertical lines to represent his subjects in the most simplified way. Mondrian believed that if he used the most basic/simplified color pallets + forms in his paintings, it would transcend divisions of culture, becoming a universal language.
Just down the street from my loft here in Atlanta, is this beautiful Piet Mondrian inspired mural, painted on the side of a building as apart of Living Walls. Read more about Living Walls here. [I am blessed to live in a city that is sooo rich in the arts!] Also, I'm gonna need you to forgive my ohh so very pale legs! They haven’t seen the sun in a while, and I am afraid that my ‘tan’ from Brazil has faded [7 days till spring break!!! -rooftop sunning here I come!]
Also, if you are a gal who lives in a part of the world that has extremely hot summers, let me introduce you to your new favorite type of dress : a slip dress. I got the one pictured last summer from Forever21, and I LIVED in it. This one too! AND I just got the CUTEST one from Alternative Apparel. It basically feels like your walking around naked and since it isn’t form fitting, it wont stick to you and show all your sweat spots! PUUURRRffect for a hot summers day!
Also, help us spread the word about #OnWednesdaysWeWearArt by adding one of the buttons below to your blog + make sure your using the hashtag on Instagram so that I see!
Hey Gals + Happy [Girl Crush] FRY-day!!! Not only is it FRYday but it is the first day of spring! And I know here in the south, we are welcoming warmer weather with opened arms! We do not do cold well ;p Speaking of cold weather, this week's #GirlCrushFRYday is Jenny- one half of Everyday is a Holiday from the Jersey Shore! [So I'm sure she could teach me a thing or two about surrviving the cold winter blues!] Jenny is an artist + designer and runs a Everyday is a Holiday with her boo Aaron. They have been living the [artful] life dream for 2 decades having their art & designs featured in publications such as Country Living, Country Home, Woman’s Day and many more! [They sell the best wood diecutts, you've got to check them out here!] I have been a fan of the duo for a while now, and soo happy to introduce Jenny to you gals! She is a pink hair'd gal with a love for pizza, french fries and a collector of all things cute and vintage! Check out her interview below [where she gives the most EPIC explanation of how to eat your fries ever [which confirms, I think this gal and I were always meant to be friends!] 1. How do you like your [french] fries [flavored &/or sauces &/or where from etc...]?
Geeez, this is a pretty crazy question…because for years I had an imaginary band, and we were called "Jenny & the Incredible Edible Chubby Chopsticks (aka French Fries)"…but let's stay on track here. I LOVE French Fries, seriously love them. And I love all kinds. This is a topic dear to my heart. Honestly though, I've been trying to eat good, and we've been eating healthy for a couple years now…but I'll run the gamut of the mall food court…Waffle fries from Chick Fil A, those big thick ones from Nathan's, and Five Guys are awesome. And then there is the connoisseur in me. Aaron and I have been known to do a nightlong "Frittes" tour of NYC. And also, I'm from the Jersey Shore…home of Boardwalk Fries! They are thick cut…sorta like the one's at Nathan's but probably way more grease soaked…and they like to serve them to you with salt and vinegar…the sign at our local French Fry place says "No Ketchup"…and I follow the rules when I go to them. But oh man…I LOVE ketchup! And me and Aaron also make oven fries at home…pro tip: cut up some potato wedges and toss them in olive oil and cornstarch before baking…super crispy! 2. Would you consider yourself old fashion or new aged/modern type of gal? I would want nothing more than to get in a DeLorean and travel back to the 1940's, stop at a Woolworth's and buy every single Easter collectible they have. So, my tastes are totally old fashioned, but I need modern technology to get at them. And since I don't have a DeLorean at present, I search these things out online. 3. If you were a cupcake flavor, what would you be? If we're going by looks, obviously Vanilla with Pink Buttercream frosting. And I'd love some pastel sprinkles and a vintage plastic bunny topper. 4.Right now, Is your desk messy or clean? What desk? All I see is a complete candy colored disaster. 5. Would you rather spend a day hanging with the Ninja Turtles, or the Care Bares? Duh, as much as I love pastels and rainbows…pizza wins…so: Ninja Turtles. 6. Since you spend all day making fake food, what your favorite REAL food to make? Super layered, mega tasty, heavy on the tahini, avocado, tempeh, and cilantro, vegan bowls. 7. What celebrity do people tell you that you look like? In my teens everyone everywhere came up to me and said I looked like Drew Barrymore. Hello Friends! Today I am sharing with you these cheeky little greeting cards, that are handmade/drawn and oh so very funny from a company called TAY HAM! These cards may look familar to you if you shop at Urban Outfitters or Nasty Gal [as well as many other retailers + publications]. When my friends over at TAY HAM surprised me with this pack of cards a couple of weeks ago and I knew exactly who I wanted to send these cards to! If you check out their website here they currently have a FIVE4TWENTY deal going on and this would be a great time to stock up on cards for friends + family [mothers + fathers day is coming up]! See what they sent me below, and at the bottom I share a few more of my favorite cards from TAY HAM! Now go get your HAMS on some cards and send someone some love the old fashion way!
