Hello Friends! Today I am sharing with you a pair of sparkle boots I D.I.Y. 'd this weekend. It was my sweet friend Paige's bachorlette bash and she wanted everyone to wear sequins of some form. I wore a sequin skirt from H&M paired with these boots! I have worn these shoes to work almost everyday this week. What can I say, they add a little pep to my step! And the best part is......they are S U P E R easy to make! See below, to see what I used. First, I took off the tassels + painted the boot solid black [you could probably skip this step if you wanted to]. I let the paint dry, then I added a coat of mode lodge [a thicker coat will be best]. I added the glitter, and let it dry/set in all the way. Once your boot is dry, add a top coat of mode podge. It will seem as though you are cover up all your glitter, but the modge podge will dry clear, and this is what will seal your glitter in place. [All though, leaving sparkle everywhere you go would be okay with me!] Lastly, I glued on the rhinestones to the heels. At first I used hot glue. Then after a couple fell off, I went back and used super glue and it has worked out great! Whatcha think? Let me know if you make a pair too! Psst! : Next week is my 26th birthday! annnnd I have ZERO plans :D and after the few weeks I've had- I'd really just love a day to sleep, relax with no "to-do list"and maybe a massage too- that'd be nice! Did you ever see my post from last year's birthday? Check it out here. Trying to decide if I am going to do a special bday post this year, and if sooo about what? Suggestions welcomed ;P
Hello Friends + Happy Wednesday! These past few days have been soo c r a z y for me, and I am kinda sorta jealous of the north east and their snow days, I could use a day to cozy up with my pups + catch up on sleep [per-usual, I really am trying to change my sleeping habbits. -still a work in progress]. ANYways, last weekend we had the most BEAUTIFUL weather, and as long as you were in the sun, it felt real nice. So naturally, that meant for a photo adventure! Today I am here to share with you gals a super girly artist, and seemingly a woman after my own heart- Starla Michelle [with a name like that she was destine to become an artist]! Her paintings are fun, vibrant, youthful and have the cutest subject matters. She has a playful and whimsical way of painting woodland creatures, pet portraits and the occasional landscape. Starla has an impasto way of painting, which means that she applies her oil paints in a very thick manner- which gives the surface a texture + makes for a very expressive result. I found Starla via the wonderful world of Pinterest, but also thought her stuff looked very familiar. After further research, I discovered some of her art on items from Anthropologie! How cool?! Whata dream come true for her! You can also buy prints of her work here. Looking at her paintings makes me want to stop what I am doing right now, and go paint! The vibrant colors + intense brush stokes brings out all that I am passionate about as an artist. Her work also inspired me to finally pair this awesome feather shaw/cover up thing I have with a grey dress + light pink tights [the majority of this outfit is from Target]. With the cold days we have been having, I thought I would have to save this feather shaw until warmer days- BUT with the sun shining bright, a sweater dress, and a pair of tights it was perfect! We went to the Wylie Street wall in Cabbage town to take some pictures. I wanted a back drop that would be super colorful, with a lot going on, so it would resemble one of her paintings. Usually when looking for a place to shoot, we just drive around and try to remember where we have seen ‘cool walls’ before. Luckily, Living Walls [the organization responsible for a lot of the public/street art in Atlanta] has a website with a interactive map- so that you can see where different murals are at. Unfortunately, it isn't the most up-to-date thing and not all of the locations have an image uploaded for it. But its a good enough way for us to find that wall we saw while driving, but can’t remember where.
Psst! Stay tuned for Glitter boots D.I.Y. later this week!

Whatcha think? Let me know if you make a pair too! Hello + Happy Wednesday! And of course today, I am here for our weekly #OnWednesdayWeWearArt link up [at the bottom of the page] with Liv, from Unbelievably Human . I also tell you which artist are my inspiration in the weeks coming up, at the end of this post! I made Pinterest boards for each of these artist, incase you aren’t familiar with them. AND because I had a few folks saying they want to participate, but wanted to know my calendar of who I was doing so they could plan ahead. Eventually I will get this all on to a calendar and posted/e-mailed [promise] for everyone who wants it! Today, I am sharing with you an artist/outfit that I actually meant to post back in December. But I was totally overwhelmed one week, then sick, then out of the country- so here it is now! My outfit matches Marta [our ‘subway’ system in Atlanta], which is just where artist Keith Haring was notorious for making his art. Well, not Marta- but in the Subways. Doodling chalk drawings on opened advertising panels. Keith Haring was a New York City street artist from the 80’s. The playful simplicity of Keith Harings work, which depicted dancing silhouettes, barking dogs, dolphins, and crawling babies covered the streets + subways of New York City and interested commuters + celebrities alike. His art would only last a day or two before being covered up by ads. But that was enough to grab peoples attention! By the end of his short life/career he was known world wide and even painted a mural on the Berlin Wall. He was best known as a street artist + activist, but as well as a commercial artist- like his comrades, Andy Warhol Jean-Michel Basquiat. One of Keith Haring’s goals was to make art for everyone. He was quoted somewhere saying that he thought it was awesome to see a kid walking around with a shirt of his on that cost $12, because that kid would probably never be able to afford a $30,000 painting. I love that! Art should be for everyone, and artist should be paid for their work! It has nothing to do with ‘selling’ out. But everything to do with reaching ‘the people’ [pre-internet days, subway art- genius way to reach the masses!]. If your trying to make a career/living at it. Therefore, your art should be approachable + interesting to the people. Meaning it should provoke some type of emotion from them. I think Haring’s art is simplistic, eye catching and provoking- which is probably why it is still loved by so many. His work went world wide in the 80’s and is still being used + marketed today! In my classroom, I used to have these wall decals up of his art work- that I got from Ikea, and my students LOVED them. So in art club one day, they traced each other and hung up the final pieces in the hallway as a giant mural. I have a picture of it on a hard drive somewhere, but couldn't find it. Are you familiar with his work? What do you think? Start a conversation in the comments below! All photos of Keith Haring found on this site, or on the Pinterest board I linked to below. Here is the artist that I have planned for the next few weeks. Ill let you know if any thing changes!
