Happy Wednesdays We Wear art day + happy April fools day!
Can you believe that it is already April?!?! I just can't. It has snuck up on us soo fast, however- I am welcoming it with open arms. I am ready for nice weather and sunshine! I hope you saw my pervious post, with the new #MakeYourMarkApril art journal challenge calendar. As well as links to my two new shops, on Society6 + Print All Over Me. Here you can get prints of my personal art work + get my designs on apparel + home goods! Check them out, and let me know what you want to see more of! I have ordered a few pieces myself, and can not wait to get them in the mail. I will REALLY wear ART on Wednesdays [wink]! A couple of gals have already order some dresses too and I absolutely can not wait to see someone walking around in one of my paintings! If you order something, snap a pic when you get it + use the hashtag #shopMFC + tag me @myfriendcourt so that I may see!
So this week, my artist inspiration is Frank Stella. In my eyes, he truly is a color maven. I remember in high school when I first came across these paintings and fell in love. His simple, yet very captivating use of color is something that speaks directly to my soul. If you know me, well enough that you've been to my house [or classroom] you would know that by NO MEANS am I a minimialist. In fact, I'm very much so a 'more is more!' kinda gal. BUT if I were to be a minimalist, this is how I would do it. Still enough color to make a modern day minimalist cringe.
Stella, like most artists- went through many stages throughout his artistic career. The paintings I am sharing with you today are from the late 1960's to early 70's. Lots of flat bright color and smoothed curved lines. He would have the canvas'/wood panels cut into these shapes, or make them pop out, 3D. Some works were painted, others were printed, and some danced the line of painting/sculpture. I would never be able to choose a favorite of his, I just know that it would be from this body of work. What do you think? Does his use of color speak to you?
Okay, so this outfit is going in as one of my faves. As it is stylish, bright and COMFY. Feels like pjs! So let me tell yuh where everthing is from :
