So if you know me well, you may know that I usually ALWAYS have some type of journal/sketchbook/notepad on me- and for the rare occasion that I have forgotten it- I will find something to write/draw on so I can remember whatever it is that has suddenly popped into my mind. Leaving my purse looking like a paper waste basket filled with random thoughts. In these collections of thoughts are lots and lots of list! Which seems rather strange to me. Most of the time I would like to think of myself as a free spirt, easy going- go with the flow type person, however- the reality is that in so many ways that isn't me. I think my job of being a teacher really made me become a much more ridged person who follows a plan & makes/lives by list and schedules. (However- summer has me feeling much more like my-free-spirited-self). OR maybe its just something that happens as you get older and take on more responsibilities.
Anywho, my list aren't always todo list- sometimes playful or maybe reflective. I don't necessarily want to share any of my old list from the past (although I know I have some funny ones) but I thought moving forward on occasion I could share a list on here. My list can get long, so for now we will keep it to 5.
I'm going to do: 5 things I'm currently LOVING!
(1.) Swedish Hasbeens .
Seriously the most comfortable shoes ever!!! To be so cute anyways. Yes, they are clog like- but they ARE Swedish ;) They are made from 100% wood & leather, but are carved perfectly to your feet. You will drop anywhere between $100- $200 for a pair. However, if you are a working lady who has to be up on your feet all day it is worth the investment- I promise you won't regret it! I bought two this summer- a red and yellow pair (its the only thing Ive worn all summer). I forsure want to get a black pair before I go back to work and maybe one other fun color- we will see!
(2.) LORDE. So I think I have already worn this record out this summer....So good
(3.) Having two weenies around the house is better than one winnie :)
(4.) My new Journal and feeling soo inspired!
I picked up the journal just two weeks ago out shopping with Sarah at Young Blood Galley & Boutique here in ATL. It is made from an old school book. You can even see where names were written in it. They had a wide variety, with all different sizes and subjects. The inside pages are blank- with no lines! (I HATE writing in notebooks with lined paper- and when I have to I usually just ignore them.) The one I got has random pages from the children's story mixed through out. I'm sharing a few pages below. I'm already almost 1/2 through it- I've just been feeling so inspired lately.
(5.) Drinking coffee in bed every morning......and late night blogging!!! (I am not looking forward having to pretend to be a morning a person again before the end of this month- #butthankfultohaveajob )
Not working this summer has left me with lots of time to DIY. Here are 3 pants I made over, all of which I was getting ready to get rid of but decided I could give them a new life. The light blue and coral pair actually used to be white, and two summers ago I dyed them. In doing so I accidentally got some of the coral dye on the blue pants (as you can see in the picture below) so I usually would only wear those around the house.
I originally had the idea for the purple pants- to create a pickle stamp from a winnie dog silhouette. I started with sketches of winnie dogs and once I drew one I liked- I used tracing paper & a # 2 pencil to transfer the outline to the piece linoleum. I had to make the winnie dog stamp twice because I got one leg done & was getting ready to finish up with the other the next day and discovered Olive eating the stamp. The second time I made it I used an exacto knife to cut it out and it was the easiest clean cut- so I suggest doing it that way if you try this out yourself. I used a paint brush and a purple fabric paint to coat the stamp and then carefully press on to pants. Another tip is to practice on another piece of fabric or piece of paper before you get started to get a fill for how much paint you need to apply each time and to figure out your spacing as well.
I got the idea for the watermelon shorts while doing some online shopping. I found the cutest pair of watermelon shorts on some British website ( I can't recall which) where they were asking 100 something US dollars for a pair- & well I'm just not gonna do that. I didn't try to make mine look like the ones a saw online at all- just working with what I got. They are rather crafty looking but good to wear on a playful summer day! I just used fabric to paint on the watermelon design and I kept it super simple- don't over think it!
I decided to paint the blue pair with a pattern I created in my sketch book a couple of months ago. These pants are a little LOUD but I do LOVE them with this top from modcloth. I also think they would look good paired with a simple white tee or button up! It is supper cool for me to see a pattern I created on a pair of pants. I once found a site where you can upload you own pattern and have it printed out on to fabric- I though about using this site to create fabric to make a new couch cover. All in all, pattern design and color mixing is something I love and would LOVE to work more with.
All 3 pant makeovers were super easy to do and took practically no time! Easily done in a day!
DIY till I DIE!!!!
So this 4th of July was interesting. It was raining and storming all day long. We have also been dog sitting for Tricia and her husband Chris this week. And let me say- 3 dogs are a handful. They all get along and play really well, but it is near to impossible for me to take all 3 out a one time. Sidney and Pickle are potty trained but sweet little Olive isn't yet so that alone makes it more difficult. Even though we didn't do much for the 4th, I felt like we still needed to take a few pictures just for the sake of it.
So Im not exactly sure why- but I didn't (obviously) update all of June. It was a busy month- but not really that busy considering I'm not working right now (which is the bomb btw)! BUT here are a few picks of my favorite moments from June.
We (Chris and I) moved into a new apartment the 1st week of June. It is in the same building I've been in the past two years- just another- bigger unit. It has a huge patio so I was able to create a little garden and hang up a hammock out there. Unfortunately it has been raining soo much this summer- my flowers are dunzo and we haven't gotten to spend as much time out there as I'd like. But all the rain clouds as made for a much cooler summer than usual- yet still very humid! I spent most of my days playing with Pickle, drinking coffee, eating, crafting, thrifting, online shopping and setting up the new apartment! The best part of June was at the end though- when we got a new baby OLIVE!!!!
