Hey gals + [ it's the freakin' weekend] Happy girl crush FRYday!
1. My favorite fries?
That's a no brainer. Salt & vinegar fries dipped in ranch dressing! Holy cow. So divine. Ps. Buffalo Wild Wings' are what dreams are made of.
2. Air dry or blow dry hair?
Air dry all the way! Always. For sure. Too much hair & not enough time to blow dry. Hairdryers are ew. I usually go to bed with a wet head. Thankfully I only wash it once a week.
3. My celebrity look alike?
I must have one of those faces because I've been told dozens of different people. The ones I get most often are Jennifer Garner, Anne Hathaway, Liv Tyler, & Kate Beckinsale. Btw... When I was baby I totally looked like Tom Hanks. So yeah. Beat that.
4. What's under my bed right now?
Dust. Like... So. Much. Dust. It's probably plotting world domination as we speak.
5. AM or PM girl?
Seriously a night owl! In no way, form, or fashion do I enjoy mornings. Just no. I love staying up late & fight bedtime like a child.
6. My favorite craft supply?
Well, besides the obvious... PAINT (which I adore & could not live without), I'm a huge fan of stickers. They're so fun & make me feel forever young.
Psst! : Salt and vinager fries?!?! I've got to find some of these in Atlanta!
Happy Wednesday! I hope your week is off to a smashing start :D Mine has been pretty good- AND the weather has been pretty f a n t a s t i c here in GA. I can feel spring in the air, which means summer is just around the corner. Summer is already the best time of year, but I don’t think anyone can enjoy their summers as much as a teacher knows how to! ;-P
Since we’ve had such nice weather, and day light sticks around longer- we were able to get really great photos for this weeks #OnWednesdaysWeWearArt post. A few weeks back- I posted which artist I would be featuring for the next few weeks, but this week I accidentally did the artist for next week. So I will be doing a little switcher-roo! This week Morris Louis was my inspiration.
Louis is a color loving, American artist who also loved playing with lines. He was also apart of the color field movement, like artist Mark Rothko who was our inspiration a few months back. Color Field painting is when an artist uses large fields of flat, solid color painted across or stained into the canvas- creating areas of flat color on a picture plane. There is a tunnel in Atlanta on the Belt Line that reminds me soo much of his paintings. BUT naturally, the day that I’m ready to shoot this- I couldn’t remember where it was on the Belt Line and we couldn’t find it. [The Belt Line is a newer project in Atlanta and essentially is a public trail that loops all the way around the city. For walking, running, biking, hiking etc. There is a lot of public art, parks and shops all along its route- as eventually it will add to our public transportation in the city. Read more about here.]
So this weekend I did a little spring cleaning and cleaned out 7 bags worth of stuff to donate. I came across this dress that I got 3 years ago from Target. I had it in a pile of clothes to go get altered or giveaway. I thought I’d try it on again- as I only wore it once, and realized that the 4 was too big after wearing it. Way back when, I tried to return it- but since it was a special/limited line, all the 2s were sold out- so I kept it. BUT upon trying it on again this weekend- it is a perfect fit! YAY! I am soo bad about getting things altered though. I still have 3 other dresses that were in that same pile to get altered- and there is no telling how long they will be there. I’m trying to get better about these things- but someone please tell me I’m not the only one.
I chose this dress because 1.] it fits now- so I was determined to make it work and 2.] Morris Louis was popular for color field painting in the 1950's which is also when art deco was popular- and this dress is very art deco...so in my book, pairing it with these boots, that make my legs look super long [color +long lines]- its a perfect fit!
I actually wore this dress on Sunday to the I Heart Atlanta pop-up shop at the W Buckhead. Since the W is such a swanky hotel, I wanted something a little fancy to wear. The bright colors of this dress, paired with the long black boots reminded me of Morris Louis and how he likes to combine his love for long lines + color. And isn't this wall we are shooting against the best? Its in downtown Atlanta, not far from my loft. I hope that one day someone lets me paint the side of a building like this! Now, that’d be a dream come true!
I am soo excited to introduce you to Kaylee, my #GirlCrushFRYday ! Kaylee has a deep love for sparkles + confetti, Shop Ban.do, Ryan Gosling and DACHSHUNDS! She truly is a gal after my own heart! Kaylee doesn't live here in Atlanta, but does live in GA- so we have actually met IRL [in real life] AND I get to see her this weekend too! YAY!
See Kaylee's interview below + be sure to check out her blog + Instagram !
1. How do you like your [french] fries [flavored &/or sauces &/or where from etc...]?
I have to have ranch! We have a restaurant here in Macon called the Rookery and they have the best beer battered fries and I usually get their jalapeño ranch. So good!
2. What kind of cake do you like for your birthday?
It has to be a vanilla cake, covered in my moms icing with tons of sprinkles.
3. favorite color glitter?
It has to be multi colored! :)
4. Favorite color crayon?
Lavender, I'm a sucker for pastels.
5. Are you an AM or a PM kinda gal?
I can be kinda grumpy in the mornings, so I'll say I'm more of a PM kinda gal :)
6. Which spice girl would you be?
Ever since I saw Spice World when I was little, I always wanted to be Posh Spice. She was so chic.
And if your crushin' on my gal Kaylee as much as me- make sure you go show her blog + insta feed some love!
Psst! : I am working on a really exciting personal project right now that I can not wait to share with you gals! SOON! :D
Happy Wednesday :) Not to talk weather with you or anything... BUT the weather today, here in Atlanta was AMAZING! Highs in the low 70s + sunny! I'll take it :) Spring is around the corner!
Which is why I needed to squeeze this outfit in before it got to warm out. I found this beautiful, slinky, comfy dress at the thrift store for 4 bucks! How awesome?! I got it just because I liked it. Shortly after, I came across a painting by Otto Dix [Pinterest board], with a lady in a red dress- just like my gold one!
When I looked up Otto Dix, I fell in love with the dark and twisted way that he uses color to depict people of his time. He was a German painter out of the great depression, who also suffered from post traumatic stress disorder after WWI. Hence the underlying dark theme to all of his paintings.
Even though these paintings came from a dark place of suffering in the artist’s life, something really beautiful was born. I am learning that this is often the case in life and art. Just like Sam Smith, who was broken hearted one day, wrote an album the next and then the next year he won 5 Grammys! Amazing things CAN come from the worst of situations, you just have to believe it to be so and keep on pushing through!
Psst! If you haven’t yet- join in the #MakeYourMarkMarch art party over on Instagram, join in when you can because we are having so much fun making art + making new friends!
